:o The recent update to Epson Perf 3200 is named SFE-6.1.0r8(Epson).exe with a size of this file is 3 503 kb. this is considerably smaller then earlier SFE-6.1.0r7(Epson).exe, which was 11 346 kB.

Why?

Do I dare to install it with the full functionallity (I've paid for the IT8 calibr support and don't want to get this lost as well as other functions).

Well I installed it (XP) and it didn't work for a 1650. No it didn't get far enough to begin looking for the scanner neither the stub program (silverfast launcher) nor Photoshop Elements would recognise the plug-in.

Your observation about size is interesting, looking back, the size maxed for 6.0.2 at 19Meg after being 17meg for 6.0.1. Then it began to shrink.
11meg for the first 6.1 series and the rather small 3.5Meg for r8.

That is indeed a significant shrink coming on the heels of 19Meg just a short time ago. The install is changed and it seems to get some of its directories mixed up.

I think there is a problem with it.

Hmm...
In my case, the recent "r8" update doesn't launch in Photoshop; not enough memory, it says..
I'll have to go back to the "r7" release :(

The version that came with the scanner I just bought is 6.01r31. Support instructed me to uninstall and install SFE-6.1.0r8(Epson).exe. It left me with a completely non-functioning program.

The r8 update must be screwed up. I emailed support and posted a question about this in the installation problems folder last week, but they've yet to respond.

I just downloaded the "r8" update again; no problems this time, everything is working fine now.
