Batch problems with PhotoShop 7 and Epson 2450

Using an Epson 2450 (firewire) with SilverFast AI 5.5.2 and PhotoShop 7 on a PC with Win2K OS.
Two strips of negatives are prescanned and the frames are selected and adjusted.
Standard settings for SilverFast AI are accepted.
When Scan Batch is selected PhotoShop 7 opens and scans all of the frames, then opens a window within PhotoShop and displays the first photo. SilverFast then rescans all of the negatives before opening a second window for picture #2--except the picture does not appear nor do any of the other pictures until all scans have been completed.
The problem is that SilverFast initiates a scan for all of the negatives for each negative. In other words if there are 2 strips of 6 negatives (for a total of 12 negative frames) the scanner will scan a grand total of 144 times.
I have varied the setting for multiple scan without any change.
Has anyone else had this experience? If you have an Epson 2450 (firewire) and Photoshop 7 on a PC and have a free moment I'd appreciate if you would check it out and let me know if you have any luck in getting it to scan every negative frame just once instead of the multiple times that I've expereinced.
