Hi all,

Please forgive the newbie question, but I am new to Silverfast. I have an Epson 2450, Windows XP-based PC, Silverfast Ai 6.0 w/IT8 calibration and the default 5x7 reflective IT8 target.

Situation: I want to scan Fuji Provia 100F slide film that has been developed but not mounted (taken with Hassy XPan camera), so I mount cut strips of the developed film in the Epson 35mm negative holder. In Silverfast, I tell it that I am scanning positive transparency film.

Question: Given that I am scanning positive transparency film, if I want proper color calibration, do I have to purchase an IT8 transparency target and color calibrate the scanner with that? I have color calibrated with the supplied reflective IT8 target, but is that not doing me any good? Which target would I purchase from LaserSoft?

Dear Andrew,

if you scan a positive transparency film, we advise you using a transparency target, especially when the scanner has two different lamps for scanning transparent and reflective documents. Indeed, the lamps have different physical properties because of their type, age, frequency of use, and so on. Some deposits on the glass plate (like smoke) might also change the properties of the light and, therefore, increase the differences between transparency and reflective calibration.

However, if you make some tests and are satisfied with the results, why shouldn't you go on using your reflective target
