Creating scanner profiles with 3rd party software through SF

I've been experimenting with creating a custom scanner profile for the reflective half of my Epson 2450 scanner and had some questions about HDR mode. Since HDR is esentially a RAW CCD data, isn't that what we want to use for scanning the MacBeth chart? The HDR scans look really dark (creating a lot more work for the profile in the process, no?) so I'd like to know if I am doing this the right way. I plan on applying the scanner profile to the high-bit scans in Photoshop, eventually converting to my working space and 8-bit. Someone else has suggested scanning the target in 24>36 bit mode unless I plan on using SilverFst HDR to do my processing (and I do not). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

HDR data is indeed very dark when viewed in Photoshop. This is normal as no gradation correction is applied to the data.
