Thumbnail of scan incorrect for any DPI above 600

Computer:

Win 7 64bit
Silverfast 6.6.2r3
Epson Expression 1640XL scanner

While in transparency mode:

Silverfast will produce accurate scans at any DPI, HOWEVER, any scan created with a rotated scan frame AND a dpi higher than 600 fails to create an accurate thumbnail when viewing in Windows explorer, or any other software. If you open the file, the image is correct.

In other words, any time I rotate the re-sizable scan frame before producing a real scan, the thumbnail ignores the rotation of the scan frame, which makes the thumbnail look like it has been been scanned incorrectly. When opening the file in photoshop, the file looks correct.

Finally, this only happens when scanning with the preview screen in horizontal mode. If i rotate the entire preview screen 90 degrees to portrait mode. The problem seems to go away.

Any context as to why it would stop generating accurate thumbnails after 600dpi while in horizontal preview mode???

Thanks for reading!

Dear customer,

many applications can not display mutli-layer tifs.
Especially simpler applications like the Windows image viewer, but also Photoshop.

You can switch the embedded thumbnail off if you like.
Simply deactivate the HiRePP feature in the preferences' special tab.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

thank You for replying,

Windows, photoshop, adobe bridge.....they can all see and show me the thumbnail and image file.

The problem is that when I scan anything over 600dpi, the thumbnail silverfast creates ignores the orientation of the actual scan. So it is a different image than the actual scan produced.

the solution you mentioned, 'deactivating the HiRepp' was already tried. With or without this setting the thumbnails do not match the actual image when I scan over 600dpi.

Dear customer,

If you deactivate HiRePP SilverFast does not embed any thumbnails.
In that case your issue is probably caused by the viewing software.
Most likely it is not able to read the metadata correctly.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
