Toolbars not active and negative scan doesn't work

I have just bought an Epson V700 (with SilverFast 8 included) and was looking forward to finally scan all my old 35mm films lying around.
But SilverFast doesn't work correctly with the scanner.
All the tools and options are grayed out and not active, so I can't use them.
AutoCCR/Histogram/Gradiation/Global CC/Selective CC.
USM/iSRD/Grane.
They also don't come up as options when I try to scan using the WorkflowPilot.
The other settings, such as Scan dimension, Navigator, Picture settings and NegaFix are active and works.
Furthermore when I try to scan negatives, the images don't scan to positive images, but end up being a sort of dark version of the negatives themselves. The prescan and the preview seems to work just fine, it is when I hit the Scan button the problem starts.
I have set it to Transparency and Negative (including NegaFix) and I have made sure the cable connecting the top and the bottom on the scanner itself is connected.
I can scan using the Epson Scan software, so there is nothing wrong with the printer as such, but the problem seems to be with connecting the hardware with SilverFast.
Can anyone help me please?
