Bands in SS 45 Ultra

I recently started seeing horizontal bands (in the direction of the scan) evenly spaced about 3/8 inches apart ? about 10 per 4X5 negative. They consist of a thin band of lighter tone next to a band of darker tone, relative to the rest of the negative. They are faint but noticeable, especially in the sky, and occur in color 6X9 scans as well. They do not affect the sharpness of the grain, as some other posts have reported.
Polaroid suggested they might be SCSI noise, but switching cables has had no effect. I wonder if switching SCSI cards might help.
I have tried both "anti-alias" and "Silverfast standard" in the options dialogue box. The Silverfast standard seems to give slightly better results.
I notice from earlier posts that some folks eliminated the bands by switching back to Polacolor software, but unfortunately that is not available for Panther, 10.3. The bands also occur when I try v**s**n 8, in any case.
Having sent the scanner back to Polaroid twice already I am hoping that won't be necessary yet again.
Suggestions?
