I am having a problem using SilverFast 6 with a Polaroid SprintScan 45Ultra when running Mac OS 10.2.4. I am experienced with SCSI issues, and I have the POL3922 SCSI card purchased from Initio installed. The Mac is a G4 (Quicksilver) dual 1 GHz with 1 GB Ram. I updated the firmware on the SS 45Ultra (you must do this from OS 9).

The problem is NOT a SCSI problem. I know that because the SS 45Ultra runs fine with PolaColor 5.5 under 10.2.4. Also, I can get great scans with the SS45Ultra using SilverFast Ai5 under classic Mac OS 9.2.
But, using SF 6 with Mac OS 10.2.4 and Photoshop 7, the computer freezes when I start a preview scan with SF 6. I get the "spinning beach ball" and the whole system locks up. Even "force quit" will not work, and I have to shut down the whole computer and start over.
I want to use the scanner with OS 10.2.4, and that's why I paid for the upgrade to SF version 6.

What are some possible casues, and what are some possible cures? I want to use this scanner to do professional photoraphy.

Dear RSJ -
Just I checked the Polaroid SS 45 u with: scsi card Acard 6712U ( firmware update 3.73 ) SilverFast AI 6.0.1r42a - Photoshop 7.1 - Mac G4 silver and Mac OS 10.2.4 - Everything works fine. There was no problem to get a correct prescan and scan :D
I don?t have a POL3922 SCSI card . So I don?t know what is your problem. Does the scanner works with this scsi card and PolaColor Inside 5.6 under Mac 10.2.4? There could appear also some problems in the case the filmholder ist not insert correct.

with regards
