Noise/Gane in slides

I'm monitoring too much noise in my SF 6.x slide scans. Especially in dark colour, shadows and such there's noise and pixelation. I try it with the new GANE reduction, the results are a little bit better, but GANE gives the hole image a more softener look. Is it a typical mid-range-scanner issue or is there something what I can check or fix? I can send a sample image if it does help...

And as reported in an other post in this forum the scan-speed is really low. A A-4 300 dpi scan needs up to four minutes. Prescan get's a little quicker. Is there anything to make it faster? Or is the reason that SF-Software is more and more complicated, need more and more power..? Or is it the "old" SS 4000 on Windows?

Thanks.

Dear Andy,

The new grain and noise removal tool, GANE II, is based on a new algorithm which is more time consuming. This is a kind of pre-release to enable the users to give it a test before the ultimate optimizations. It is sure that using GANE takes more time than usual (in the latest version approx. 4 times slower). Have you compared a scan with and without GANE on your SS4000 ?

You can send us a sample image with some comments at support@silverfast.de.
