sf stalls after scan

PostPosted: Sat Jan 04, 2003 6:04 am

I am using Silverfast Ai version 6.01 r28 - the PS plugin version
Polaroid Sprintscn 120 & latest firmware
Photoshop 6.01
Windows 98SE with 768mb ram
Scanning in Normal mode, not Normal(file).
Mainly 16 bit Grayscale scan type.

Problem is that after the scanner finishes scanning , the little blue progress bar shows that it is finished, then nothing happens ! !! It is almost frozen ! The little Blue progress bar is complete.
A thumbnail of the image is complete.
The little aeroplane with moving propeller is still flying.
IT DOESNT BRING THE IMAGE INTO PS !

If I click the Cancel button, it will often do what was supposed to happen - only then will it bring the image into Photoshop.

Is there a link between the Silverfast software and the film holders ? A bug perhaps ?

Is there access to an archive to see if the same problem exists with an earlier build ?
Frank

I have the exact same problem with 6.01r28 PS plugin. I use SS4000+, PS 7.01, WinXP Pro with 2GB RAM, scanning in Normal mode. Never had this problem with previous releases.

Someone else also wrote to me with the exact same problem - so there are several people with the problem. Too bad we dont get an answer or solution from the author/s.

Anyway, I may have found a solution which you may wish to try - delete the entire contents of your Prefs folder ((PS>Plug-ins>Import/Export>SF>Prefs)or cut and paste the contents into a temp directory). Then startup SF. It seems to have worked for me - I hope it's permanent.

Thanks for the fix. I tried it but no luck. Still need to press cancel to get the scan into Photoshop. Guess it's a bug in the software. Hope a fixed version be out soon.

scan stalls at 100%

even though this (the 1st question/answer) describes a different issue http://www.silverfast.com/faq/1029/en.html
- I thought I'd try it as a fix - did you empty the contents of the prefs folder ?
If it still doesnt work keep bugging Lasersoft - on the forum and also email them and use their tech support - - they should have an answer for us or at least have the courtesy to reply promptly - we did pay for the upgrade after all - it wasn't a gift.

I had the same problem with the PS-plug in. When I installed the 6.0.1r28 Twain version it worked.
I guess this is the solution for now, unless you want to install a previous version of the PS-plugin.

I just joined this forum to report this exact problem; but this only happend today! yesturday this was not a problem?

The same thing happens: blue bar, flying plane, but does not import into PS. press cancel and sometime image arrives in PS and sometimes it just stops. my setup: PS 7, ss120, firmware 1.33, win2000, 512ram, silverfast Ai 6.

I tried the solution above from tokoloshca, it worked for me BUT it strips out the IT8 calibration that i did (and here is the problem!) i only did the calibration this morning so this explains why i had no problem yesturday. As soon as i recalibrate with the IT8 the problem returns- so maybe a IT8 bug? (oh and you have to re-register the software after deleting the pref contents)

Craig
I haven't yet re-calibrated with the IT8 - so you may be right about it being the issue . Perhaps when I do it mine will stop working again - I hope not !!!!!!
Sice clearing the prefs folder, I have only experimented with grayscale images & that's maybe why I've had good luck so far.
I will re-calibrate later and report back.

BTW - I am new to this forum - is it normal for Lasersoft not to reply or offer suggestions if they dont have solutions ?

You are right.
After I calibrated (IT8 with Roes slide & TK199910C2.txt reference file) the problem returned.

Dear All.

The user Tocoloshca has also posted this message in the thread "Host related problems". Please also look at that thread. We will investigate that problem and report back.

Eric.

Dear All,

I could not reproduce the issue you mentioned with the following configuration:

SilverFast 6.01r28 + LaserSoft's IT8 calibration
Photoshop 6
Windows 2000 (Version 5.0 Service Pack 3, Build 2195)
512MB Ram
Polaroid Sprintscan 120 FireWire & SCSI
FirmWare 1.33

although I tested several image modes (grey, colour, 8/16 bits), large images...

Could you please send me the following info pieces at support@silverfast.de:
- your Prefs folder (just after the problem arisen)
- your logfile.txt
- tell if the problem occurs only in certain cases (8/16 bits, ...) or always after the calibration has been done

Thanks.

Thomas

No problem scanning B/W

Just noticed that the problem goes away when scanning B/W negatives. But it remains when scanning in color. The color scans use Adobe 1998 profile while B/W ones use Gray 2.2, does this matter?

it didnt work for me either B&W or col - whatever the Scan Type

I just left a message in the host problems forum. I have had the same problem with Silverfast AI 6.01r28, Windows 98, photoshop 7, Silverfast as plugin, IT8 calibration with CROES slide. The problem has ocurred in scanning batch(file), batch to photoshop, normal (file) and normal to photoshop - both with slides and color negative (which when scanning is supposed to disable the IT8 calibration?). This bug cropped up randomly during a multiple scanning session and through purely random reconfiguring occasionaly disappeared only to reappear. There is obviously a bug here and Silverfast's denial is puzzling and disturbing. What should have taken only an hour or two (60 slides and 20 negatives) ended up taking over 10+ hours - not at all time efficient!
