After 2 days of frustration, I give up. I have a Sprintscan120 running on W98SE. My box is 1.4Ghz w/1G of ECC DDR. I have several 60G 100ATA drives with lost of room left. I have done hundreds of scans with this setup. I was using 5.5.1r3 on PS 6.0.1. During a batch scan 2 days ago, I suddenly got an invalid page fault in module <>. Neither PS or Windows locked, but I rebooted anyway. Since then I have not been able to complete a scan above 152 dpi. I always get an invalid page fault, usually in Kernel32.dll. If I run the twain version I get the error" could not complete the import command because of a problem with the aquisition module interface". I have completely uninstalled PS and all SF files 3 times. I tried going back to 5 and it worked, 5.2 worked also. No Job manager though so they are worthless. I have even d/l 5.5.1r8 and now I can do single scans, but the job manager still crashes. I have moved my swap file back under windows command and then switched it back to my customized partition. I have switched out all of my DDR modules. I have even swapped out the processor Nothing will cure this error. My system is fine, I can run any and all other programs including HDR. Photoshop works wonderfully with files over 300M. What else should I try?

I also had/have similar problems with my Epson. It seems that if I "Cancel" Silverfast in the middle of a scan, all Hell breaks loose. I usually do it because I realize I've left 8x multi-sampling on, and when you scan 8.5x11 that way, it takes forever.

Anyways, to solve this problem, I usually have to do the following:

1. Reinstall the scanner drivers (from Polaroid in your case).

2. Turn off the scanner.

3. Reboot, remembering to turn on the scanner.

4. Try Silverfast.

5. If this doesn't work, I reinstall Silverfast.

It seems you've nearly killed yourself trying to fix this! The thing most people forget is that to use Silverfast, you also need the scanner to be properly installed in Windows with the mfrs. drivers.

Try reinstalling the drivers, and if that doesn't work, post here again, and I'll see if there's anything else I can think of.

It's not clear from your initial post what changed from working to not working. Something happened, something new, something deleted, something screwed, but ALWAYS something happened and this something usually results in Silverfast falling over and deciding its dead - been there- done it - and have the smelly teeshirts!

Try reinstalling Polacolor Insight and run the scanner a few times from within it. Then try SilverFast again. Also when you wrote removed SilverFast - did you mean ALL of it? Photoshop - did you delete the preferences?

Yes I completely removed both all the way down to any references in the registry. No new programs, updates or anything changed. I was in the mmiddle of doing ~20 batch scans. I just crapped out right in the middle.

Something has got corrupted. Reinstall Polacolor Insight and try doing as I described above.

I will as soon as I can find it. It was such a peice of crap that I have no idea where it went Thanks for the idea, I'll post the results. Coulthard this year? McNish, Irvine?

Nope, Polascan works, but SF JM keeps on crashing.

There are still two things you could try:
First, after deinstalling the software, clean up the registry keys of that software. (Execute regedit.exe; position to HKeyLocalMachine/Software/Silverfast or HKeyCurrentUser/Software/Silverfast or similar entries for adobe, epson and so on; remove the whole subtree before reinstalling the software)
Second, you wrote, that you have enough space on your drives. But is that also true for the drive, which holds your temp (or tmp) directory? (To find the path for the tmp, e.g. execute the command "set" at a DOS-prompt).

Right now I have it working for scans smaller than 200Meg. Have not tried anything larger as I don't need to at the moment.
