After waiting 3 months now for Epson to release XP drivers for the Expression 800, I decided to try the Windows 2000 driver. It works without any problems.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for either the Twain or PS plug-in version 4. After installing either one, I receive a message stating that Silverfast cannot find scanner. If the epson twain driver can find the scanner, why can't the silverfast program?

Correct. SilverFast 4 broke when Windows 2000 came out. Of course Windows XP is nearly the same operating system, and will not work with SilverFast 4 either. We have ceased development of 4.x before Win2k/XP appeared.

The current versions of 5.5 appear to work with WinXP. Feel free to try a demo of 5.5 with your scanner to ensure the upgrade is worth it (should you decide to take this route).
