Silverfast and Jaguar (OS 10.2)

Well, basically, it doesn't work. I don't think it's a problem with the OS either, as System Profiler discovers my SCSI card OK. However, trying the File > Import > Silverfast SE in Photoshop 7 just brings up a cannot find scanner message, as it did in Classic in 10.1.

Anyone else find this problem?

My cd writer doesn't work either, BTW.

I also just installed MacOS 10.2 and I get the message that the scanner can not be found.

When I boot to MacOS 9.2.2 the software and scanner work fine.

my Epson Expression 800, is DOA in OS 10.2

Ditto. SilverFast Ai, at least for my Epson Expression 800, is DOA in OS 10.2. Who needs to address this, Silverfast or Epson? Not sure where the problem exists, though it could be with both.

I received the following reply today:

"unfortunately, the upgrade to version 10.2 caused most scanner software to stop working. This is also true for the Epson-scan to file drivers, which Silverfast uses to communicate with the scanner. We're currently working on resolving this problem, but it might take a few weeks, until a fix will become available.

Everyone,

Epson posted a Trial 3 TWAIN driver (Epson TWAIN 5.75) on their Developer's Site which is supposed to work with 10.2 Jaguar. I downloaded it and installed.

It does work within Photoshop 7.0.1 and OS 10.2, but SilverFast Ai 6 (SFE-6.0.1f11 (Epson)) still doesn't see my Perfection 2450 Photo via USB or FireWire. The Epson TWAIN acquire plug-in does work with either connection, so at least I CAN finally scan in Jaguar and PS 7!

Note: It is only a TWAIN driver, no Scan-to-File software is with it.

Just an FYI,

Cory

just a note, but i've been trying to get microtek scsi scanners to work with 10.2, silverfast6ai and photoshop7.

often the scanners are not recognised at first boot up (i get the scanner not found error in silverfast). but then restarting the machine will make them work.

i have had success with:

Microtek ScanMaker 4
Microtek ArtixScan 4000t

on the other hand i cannot make the ArtixScan1100 work at all.

just to clarify:

scsi scanners should appear in the 'bus' section of the apple system profiler.

when they didn't appear here they didn't work in silverfast.

(well, i assume all makes / models will, but i have only the microtek scanners mentioned above to test with).

I can't locate TWAIN 5.75 on the Epson site. What is the exact URI?

Ah, now this is interesting. Silverfast Ai 6 DOES work in 10.2, at least with my scanner.

BUT

I only have version 5.5 SE. However, the website mentioned a version 6 SE upgrade from 5.5 available for only $20, which I duly bought.

The email confirmation arrived, with my serial number, but pointing me to a URL for the version 5.5 software!

Can anyone, from Lasersoft or otherwise, confirm if Silverfast SE 6 for the Microtek 6400XL even exists? If it does, can I have the URL, and if it doesn't, what on earth have I just paid $20 for??

Image Capture in OSX 10.2 supports many recent scanners. It is not just for capturing images from digital cameras. Several calls to Apple Tech support finally gleaned this information.
