Mr. President,

It has been a while since Negafix was introduced. But there have been no substantial improvements. Negative Direct is just back to the way it was before Negafix.

I like your software, but not your negafix, although when it came out it was a big improvement. But time has not been standing still.

The LS8000 and LS4000, I use them both, the LS4000 when it first came out and the LS8000 since a while. Actually they both show the same problems with Negafix, in the same fashion.

I use two pieces of scanning software on these scanners, v**s**n (US$ 40,-!) and Silverfast 5.5.20 Ai (also HDR!)
v**s**n is improving all the time lets say "daily", and its support response is very fast. Its scanning results are far above Silverfasts Negafix on the LS8000 and LS4000 right now.

I scan alot of Portra 160NC, Reala, and Superia 400. The first two are really crap on the Nikons with Silverfast, the last one is average and needs alot of work. If I compare it to v**s**n there is a big improvement to be done. A lot of the profiles are way off.

What can we expect?

NegaFix and Nikon LS4000 and LS8000

Dear Mr. Janssen,

thank you very much for your comments on NegaFix with Nikon LS4000 and LS8000. I regret we have been too busy with the development of new features as well as OS-X support. Also we are somewhat dependent on Nikon's Maid construction which sits between the scanner and SilverFast.

We would however like to work with you and dedicate time to fix your problems as soon as possible, especially on those negative film you use most.

What I would like you to do in order to quickly identify the problem is to mail us 2 files of each film with following settings:

1. 24 bit file with NegFix processed (as you would usually do)
2. 48 bit HDR file

Each file not larger than 2 MB for 24 bit and 4 MB for 48 bit.

I would like to provide files to update the Negafix Profiles for use with my Super Coolscan 4000ED. I am seeing differences in color quality between Neg-Direct and Negafix with the Neg-Direct apparently being superior to Negafix.

I am using Kodak Advantix APS films, Fuji APS films, and Kodak ProFoto and Supra 35mm film.

When you state "24 bit file with NegFix processed", what exactly do we do? Do we only select the film type in Negafix leaving all other color corrections turned off?

How do we generate 2MB and 4MB files? Is there a specific output size and file format that we should use?
