Selecting in Overview

The method of showing selection in overview is confusing. There are three things visible - white, blue and black frames. Can you tell me what each signifies please?
The blue frames are the ones selected for ADF scans,
White ones are not selected.
The one with the additional border around it is the one selected for editing.
