LaserSoft Imaging

The SF4 manual addendum states:

"Film strip offset: This function allows you to adjust the starting line of the prescan (and scan) to any position of the film strip. This is useful e.g. with film stripes, where the margin or a part of the first image is cut off."

I have tried the tool but have never been able to use it successfully. Are we supposed to click on the visible edge of the frame within the Prescan, or are we supposed to click at the end of the Prescan window and wait for SF to automatically make the correct offset adjustment.

I had a 3-frame strip BatchScan yesterday where the first frame was positioned correctly, but the second frame was just out of position and the third frame was more out of position. How are we supposed to prevent this creeping offset problem?

I have a Super Coolscan 4000 ED.

The messages you referred to document the problem but not the solution. To date, Lasersoft has not attempted to instruct how to use the Strip Film Offset tool, or to confirm that it even actually works

I tried to get an answer to the same issue about a few weeks ago with no answer.
I actually use an LS-8000 and do a lot of MF scanning where the film offset feature is even more important compared with 35mm scanning on the LS 4000.
The otherwise crappy Nikon scan software handles the problem in a quite user friendly way.

Adjusting the Film Strip Position in SilverFast Nikon

This button enables to set a new position of start or end of a film strip , in case the motor.driven transport and not positioned the film correctly.
By clicking onto the postioning button the mouse cursor changes into an up- (or left) pointing arrow. Click with the horizontal base of the arrow onto the image start on the film strip. The scanner will then readjust and update the prescan preview.

If clicking onto the positioning button with ?Alt?-key depressed the mouse cursor will change into a down (or right) pointing arrow. Click with the horizontal base of the arrow onto the very end of the film strip. The Scanner will readjust and update the prescan preview.

This is also what the info text says in the preview window; however, the results are quite random in my experience

I tried all possible varieties to use the filmstrip positioning utility. In fact I'm considering to buy the SA-30 adapter for my LS-4000 but as long as this does not work....
Right now I find this function to be the most ridiculous and useless dummy function I ever saw in a program....

I cannot understand why Lasersoft produces such a phantastic program as Silverfast and is unable to document such a basic function so that a normal human being has a chance to understand how to use it (or make it work at all...).

Sorry, Mr. President, but I absolutely cannot follow the steps you describe to make this function work.

Considering the amount of postings referring to this bug (?) I feel it's time for a working solution.

Film Offset Tool has been fixed in Maid Module

We found the problems with the film offset tool to be within the maid module and had finally Nikon fix this bug. All latest SF Nikon versions have this fix!
