OK, I have used my LS-2000 for some time and mostly with Nikon Scan because Silverfast kept freezing/crashing my Mac. I was advised that upgrading both my OS (from 9.0.4 to 9.1) and the latest version of SF would solve all my problems. Er,no it won't.
I have tried reinstalling my OS software and both Nikon Scan and Silverfast to no avail. When one works the other doesn't. It is mostly Silverfast that is giving me grief.
I get 'cannot focus' errors when the 'auto for ADF' box is checked and now I am getting 'Hardware Error' messages. This is seriously frustrating and time consuming when I could be out taking pictures. Has anyone else suffered and found a cure? I am on a Mac G4/400Mhz/256RAM with Photoshop 6 and SF version 5.5.5r09.

cheers

Make sure that the High-resolution Prescan option/preference is set to x1. There's a bug in SF that causes focus errors when batch scanning if the Prescan value is anything other than 1x.

it would seem that the 5 hours or so required to pinpoint this bug were very worthwhile. ;-)

LaserSoft please fix this bug when you can, or at least document it on the web site under a Support section called Known Bugs. There is nothing worse than getting stumped by a software problem which happens to be an undocumented but known bug.

regards
Gregory

Making the title of the original post something more informative than "Help I'm drowing" would also help other users who might experience the same problem. It migt also attract a tad more attention from others who've already experienced the problem.

Agreed but then I needed to attract attention. A lot of these forums are peopled by programmers whose langauge I cannot decipher. I don't need to know why something works just how to get it going asap. In fact I want stuff to just work out of the box as it is intended. But I'll take my ticking off like a man. Oh and IL I appreciate your essays too; they've got pictures on that I can understand and have helped me a great deal.
