How can I efficiently adjust the film strip offset with the film strip holder of my Nikon LS4000 ?
For me, it is impossible to make 'fine' adjustments (like less than 10% of the frame height (approx. 3 mm)) - either there is no effect at all, or the frame is offset at least twice as much as I intended.
The automatic adjustment works much better (though not perfect) when I do an overview scan of the whole strip before the prescan, but more or less unusable when I only do a prescan of a single frame.
Is this a hardware-related problem?

I have also found difficulty using the Film Strip Offset control. It was almost never accurate, especially for the frames at the end of the strip or for frames next to the blank leader frames.

I searched the SF manual and the SF web site but did not find an accurate description of how to use the Offset tool. I had to experiment to learn which direction it applied its affect to and whether to click on the currently visible frame edge or whether to click where the edge should be displayed in the preview.

In my experiments though, I did find that trimming the film strip down to its minimum length and thereby stripping away the leader frames and/or the excess millimetre or so of film at the ends of the strip solved the Offset problem overall. By doing so, I could then ignore the Offset tool which doesn't seem to work well anyway!

That's a tip I will try! I have the same issues with this functions.
<p>What I'd like to see: either a small tutorial "How to use the offset function" or a statement by SilverFast: "This function does nor really work". (Ahem, NikonScan's offset function works great, by the way ...)
