Will there be a photoshop-plugin for the LS-2000 (for Mac OS-X) available as soon as Photoshop 7 is released?

The communication to the LS2000 is done via drivers that come from
Nikon. We will have to wait until
Nikon has finished their implementation for MAC OS-X. Currently we don?t know, when
Nikon plans to release the drivers for the new system.

According to Nikon, they plan to have a stand alone (i.e not a photoshop plud-in) available sometime in April 2002. I obtained the info from the following site: -

If we have to wait for Nikon it can take some time...

Do they have plans to make them at all for the LS-2000?

According to the Nikon site, they do not intend to support the LS 2000 on OSX.

Dear all.
I just got the information from
Nikon, that they will need one more month to develop the SDK for OS-X. I would expect the first release of the SDK in early june and the first SilverFast for
Nikon on OS-X a few weeks later.
The new SDK will include the LS4000 and LS8000.
Nikon told me, that they are not planning to make the SDK for the LS2000. I guess the scanner is too old, sorry.

Why must Silverfast wait for a "part" from Nikon to connect to the LS-2000 in OS X? v**s**n may be a humble cousin to Silverfast, but it currently runs the LS-2000 in OS X and does not use the Nikon MAID plugin. I suspect that there are quite a few other LS-2000 owners around the world who would like a full featured product like Silverfast for OS X, if Nikonscan is limited to OS 9. I am holding off purchacing Silverfast Ai for mine (I have it for my Epson, so I am a customer) because I don't want to invest in something that only works in OS 9. I would be happy just to have an LS-2000 version Silverfast SE.

Dear Peter.
Of course the LS2000 can be controled without the SDK from
Nikon, but LaserSoft has decided to use this SDK some years ago. One of the reasons is, that digital ICE is licensed by
Nikon and not by LaserSoft. If we wouldn?t use the SDK, we couldn?t support dICE. On the other hand, we have no legal information, how to control these scanners directly. Even if we would have this information, it would be very time consuming to change the code.
SE versions are available for the LS2000, but for systems up to MAC OS9 only.

And so, if Nikon does not provide the SDK for the LS-2000, Lasersoft will not offer an OS X version of Silverfast (either Ai or SE) for this scanner?

Yes,
this is a fact.
Nikon will not provide an OS-X SDK for the LS2000 and that is why we will not have any OS-X plugin for this scanner, sorry.
Eric.
