Coolscan 4000 ED settings to archive

I've been given the task of archiving all the families old slides and also the grandparents. What are the best settings to adjust the scanner to? No one will probably print to larger than 8 x 10, possibly 11 x 14. What settings would you recommend under Crop, Output size, Filesize, Scale and Resolution? Thanks for all your help.

For an 11 x 14 print you need about 3300 pixels by 4200 pixels. Most printers will use about 300 ppi as input. 35 mm is roughly 1 inch on the short side, so i would scan at 4000 ppi resolution ( referred to as dpi on the window).

For archive, use 100 % crop ( whole frame) unless you know you want to cut some part out. That would be scan by scan. Do that in the preview window.

The Q factor will not be relevant. Scale should be 100%. The others are the result of the above settings.

Ian has some good tutorials here:

that will take you through the basics.
