I'm looking for some better software to the buddeled software with the scanner.

I have the SF-200 slide feeder.

I have hundreds of kodachrome slides that I'd like to scan and save off to CD in as higher quality as possibility (in the furture I want to work with the images from the CD)

Can Silverfast do this and if so how, what settings do I need to use?

Thanks.

SilverFast Ai / HDR works productively with Nikon LS4000ED and SF200

Dear Michael,

SilverFast Ai and SilverFast HDR are the best combination to process large number of slides.
In order to use this powerful combination you would follow this procedure:

1. Scan all slides with SilverFast Ai 5.5.2 into HDR-format (48 bit tif raw data) using the LS4000ED with SF200. You can use the descratching (digital ice) and also embed an ICC-profile.
With that you have got the ideal image archive because the full dynamic range of the scanner is contained in the data. The ICC-calibration profile that SilverFast's IT-calibration can produce can be embedded in the raw data.

2. Use SilverFast HDR 5.5.2 with JobManager to process the raw data
SilverFast HDR can open the raw data in highest speed (because of HiRePP in abou 1 second) and do all the required corrections in real-time on the SilverFast preview. Also SilverFast HDR can recognize and use the embedded ICC-profile on the fly.
The SilverFast HDR JobManager enables to process hundreds to thousands of images productively since you can quickly allocate different settings to different or with a single command to all images. You can even run Multi-Jobs and process different sets of batches all at once.

SilverFast Ai with SilverFast HDR is certainly the most powerful solution for working with the Nikon LS4000ED film scanner and also the most productive to use the full potential of raw data. SilverFast HDR can even save all corrections into raw data so that any later correction is still using the 48 bit colour space for maximum quality and freedom of control.

Can you be a little more specific about stage one please.

As I understand it I have to scan using either Photoshop or other Twain tool.

So how excatly do I set things up to do Stage 1 that you sugest?

THanks.

Can the same effect be obtained by batch scanning using the Nikon software, saving 48 bit (actually 42 bit?) files, and processing these with SF HDR (with or without job manager) using iT8 calibration and other tools?

If not, what is the specific benefit of scanning with SF Ai compared to the Nikon software that cannot be reproduced later using SF HDR?

I want to buy your product, but I am finding it very difficult to figure out what I want and need.

Thanks.
