Hello

Nikon scan has some autofocus problem (with old positive films) and not intuitive manual focusing.
I have chosen Silverfast with amazing focusing tool
but!
Silverfast make very different color

here some samples

(Silverfast 6.6.0.5 reset all settings)
(Nikon scan 4.0 same settings)

Dear Gog22,

There are some obvious differences between both scanns, these can be due to different color spaces used and if you carefully take a look at the picture created with SilverFast you will notice that it has more contrast than the one created with Nikonscan.
In that case you might want to deactivate the automatic corrections in SilverFast, this can be done by opening the "Options" dialogue
SilverFast UniversalSilverFastMov001.jpg
options button
SilverFast UniversalSilverFastMov001.jpg (73.95 KiB) Viewed 1400 times

Select the tab Auto and deactivate the automatic corrections so it looks like this
SilverFast UniversalSilverFastMov002.jpg
color cast removal and auto contrast should be inactive

You should also consider that you have to set the same color space in both programs, otherwise it is likely that they will give you both different results.

Cheers

Dear Gog22

First of all thanks for your screenshots.

I see you are having mainly some issues with the color management configuration as I suggested in my last mail,
This is a complex issue which has been largely documented and would be too long to explain here, I suggest you download the following PDF documents and take a look at the suggestions there to set the CMS options in SilverFast, Please bear in mind that most of this is made automatically in Nikon therefore you can not see what exactly is happening there, however in SilverFast you have complete control over the color management.

The documents can be found following the next links:

http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu/colormanagementguide_en_2006-01-24.pdf
http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu/ch7colourmanagement,completechapter_en_2006-06-21.pdf

I hope these documents give you some hints on how to proceed with the color management in SilverFast to obtain the most out of your scanns.

Cheers
