I have a new Mac Pro and Macbook Pro, both running 10.5.5.
I have the latest version of silverfast 6.6.0r3) running on them both.
When I attach the scanner to the laptop (using any of the USB2 ports), it shows up in Silverfast as a SCSI LS5000 ED. The prescans (and scans) are as fast as they go with Nikon scan and v**s**n. When I put the same scanner on the Mac Pro, the Nikon Scan and v**s**n prescan is just as quick as on the laptop (24 seconds for prescan). With Silverfast, it shows up as a Firewire Nikon LS5000 ED, and the same prescan with the same settings takes a bit over 100 seconds.
Has anyone else seen this? I'd much rather be using Silverfast on my Mac Pro, than scanning on the laptop and xfering the files over.
thanks!
Jim

Dear Jim,
If they are the very same version of SilverFast there should not be such a difference in the preview scanning time.
I suggest you erase the following folder in your Mac Pro while SilverFast is closed.
Navigate in your finder to
Leopard/Users/Your user name/Library/Preferences
and erase the folder named "LaserSoft Imaging" this will reset your SilverFast version to the factory preferences
I hope this helps improve the situation
Have a nice day

Re: Slow prescan for Nikon Coolscan5000
I did what you suggested, but still have the same behavior. I had a friend install the demo version on his MacPro, and tried my scanner on his system, with the same performance. The scanner also comes up on his computer as Firewire.
Re: Slow prescan for Nikon Coolscan5000
an added symptom... the prescan slows even more when you move the mouse on the MacPro (a USB mouse)

i also verified that the scanner and the keyboard/mouse are the only things plugged into the MacPro
