Better preview and more intelligently scanning

Postby zappi » Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:31 am

Hi there,

is there a reson why SF does no ICE-job and AACO and so on in preview-mode?

And why is SF waiting so long with starting the job of changing the media in the feeder if it is running in batch mode? Would it not faster, if the scanner is loading the next media _during_ SF is rendering the previous media?

Changing the media with a SF210 Feeder takes about 20 Sec each Media. Running a 50 Dia scan-job in the feeder can easy save 10 Min only by using a better workflow in the software.

If SF would scan the next image during it is rendering the previous image, it can save much more time. Is there a reasan that SF is acting so awkwardly?

What about Multiprocessor-Support? My G5 Guad takes about 3,5 min per Dia, using only one CPU when it does ICE, Gane, AACO and so on. I think if it will use all CPUs of the System, it can speed up to about 300 Percent faster and Multiprocessor is not so rarely on PCs and Macs.

[Dream on] ...And if it would use Apple Grid Technology, it could be much more faster if it connects to some other CPUs in the local Network. I think, many people have more than 1 PC or Mac in there Network at home ore work.
[Dream off]

Greetings, Thomas

Dear zappi,

you are perfectly right that SF *could* make better use of spare CPU time and of waiting times in the scan process !

This is something we will hopefully manage in a reworked SilverFast Version that has a new structure inside.
With the current version we will not be able to make such drastic changes to the workflow :-(

Greetings,
