For the past several years I have been using Ai Studio on a 5000ED and plain old Ai on a Coolscan IV, using SA-21 film strip adapter with each, and have never understood why Ai does not reposition the film ship after a prescan but Ai Studio does so, all too often with unacceptable results. To my way of thinking, it is simply not acceptable for the software to second-guess where I have carefully positioned the strip for scanning.
Has anyone else recognized this difference? Is there a workaround--short of using Nikon's flimsy FH-3 filmstrip holder, which has issues all its own.
Ai Studio repositions filmstrip before final scan, Ai doesn'

Frame repositioning Coolscan IV & 5000 ED
Hello Martin,
That's an intriguing suggestion, which I will undertake this week and report the results to the forum. (I was a bit worried that I had made the "wrong" choice in one of Ai Studio's extensive menus with the result that the filmstrip would be repositioned every time!)

Lieber Martin,
Here are the findings of my comparison of Ai vs. Ai Studio as regards repositioning the film strip after prescan and upon executing a final scan: The difference is not in the version of the software but in one of the functions. Multi-Exposure does reposition the strip before a final scan; multi-sampling does not.
Since repositioning the film strip can lead to errors when locating the edges is critical, switching from a multi-exposure scan to a multi-sample scan can prevent this type of error.
