IT8 on Coolscan V ED using different film holder

Postby truando » Wed Aug 15, 2007 5:33 pm

After doing an IT8 calibration with the slide mount adapter, the scanner is only calibrated with that holder. When using the film-strip adapter, it seems I have to redo a IT8 calibration, but since my target is in a frame, I can't use it in the film-strip holder.

Do I really have to do a new calibration with each holder type??

If yes, why can't I use the calibration with both film holders? It's the same scanner after all.

I personally have noticed little difference doing an IT8 calibration with my Coolscan V. Nikon scanners use LEDs which experience little color shift as they age. The scanner does an automatic calibration when you turn it on. For my scans this is adequate.

IT8 calibration done once should work for any type of holder. If not, something is wrong to be discussed with SF-support.

However, IT8 does not effect scanning of negatives

There is a world of difference between IT8 on/off. This type of color correction has nothing to do with LEDs. There is no automatic color calibration at start up.
