Nikon Scanners and Windows Vista

Postby bobjoek » Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:27 pm

Currently the Nikon Coolscan scanners do not work with Windows Vista. However, I have successfully managed to get my Coolscan V scanner to function with Windows Vista and Silverfast Ai with the following workaround.

Start first with the Nikon Coolscan software, as this contains the necessary drivers. Right click on the Coolscan installation file and select Properties. Then select the Compatibility tab and select the Compatibility mode check box. Make sure the compatibility mode is set up for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Then select Apply and then OK. The properties box will close. Next select the installation file and proceed with the installation.

After installing the Nikon Coolscan software, repeat the same steps for the Silverfast software.

So far I have scanned approximately 50 slides and negatives with this workaround and have not experienced any problems. However, I cannot guarantee this will work in every instance, as I have not exercised all options on the software.

Good luck!
Bob
