Nikon LS8000 Batch Scan Negatives - Error!! Help!!

I am using the FH-835 negative carrier to scan in 35mm negatives. This works great in batch mode, however, since my negative strips are shorter than what the carrier can handle, it will not advance to the second row. When the scanner gets to the first empty frame on the first row, it errors ("Cannot focus") and stops.

I cannot find any feature to tell the scanner to move on past an empty frame, or to tell it how many frames are on my negative strips.

Dear martinav

the overview scan function (can be called from the vertical button bar of the preview window) will let you select the frames you want to include in a batch.
