Hello Everyone

Does the calibration of a film scanner using an IT8 Transparency Target results in improved scans of negative film?

or

Would you need an IT8 Negative Target to achieve that?

Best Regards

Hello MiguelAleman,

I read a posting last year in which someone was reporting improved quality by using a true negative IT8 target, but I would imagine a transparency target would do better than no calibration at all.

LaserSoft has transparent targets 35mm and Transparent targets 6x7cm available for purchase.

If you have a Nikon scanner supporting the "negative direct" mode, it does.

If not, you are forced to work with NegaFix and IT8 will not help

Profiles created from the IT8 transparency target are ignored when using NegaFix.

There are two areas you would be trying to calibrate; the scanner and the film stock. Due the number and variation in negative films there do not appear to be any IT8 negative targets. This does not preclude making your own target negative and tweaking a supplied film profile in NegaFix till you feel you have an improvement.
