Dear sir,

I am using Nikon 9000ED (with original Nikon software) to scan my 6x6 and 135mm film now.

I am thinking to go for 612 or 617 camera.

I feel quite strange, becuase 9000ED's film holder for 6x6 film is long enough for 617, but the software limited the scanning size to 2pc 6x9 max only.

Does silver fast can help me if I want to scan 612 or 617 film on my 9000ED scanner?

scanning 6x12 cm or 6x17 cm isn't supported by the Nikon MAID libraries.
Thus there unfortunately is no option in SilverFast for scanning these formats, too.

I just purchased a Nikon LS-9000 and SilverFast Ai 6 myself, and have discovered that there is quite a lot of information to be found in the Yahoo SIG on the medium format Nikon scanners at:

There are users there that are scanning 6x17 film by doing it in three sections, and stitching the scans together. This requires absolute repeatability in terms of film position and focus, and so is being done using fluid-mount holders that are available as after-market products, or DIY projects. I remeber this conversation on the Yahoo SIG too (beginning of 2005). Another important discussed aspect was how to get constant results from the software without auto-adjustments by the software to stich the scanparts together without colordifferences. Not a method the hardware is built for, but the fellow from "High Mountain Imagery" said it worked for a single job (I don?t think architecture), if memory serves me well.

I had an actual need to test this method and tried it by myself today. The technique works even for architecture images. But it will take you longer than 5 Minutes. I prefer cropping a 4/5 inch picture into panorama. Another gear and another widangle character but less work in the computer darkroom.

Dear users

SilverFast refrains from any automatic adjustment (even greys out the respective menus) in its HDR scanning modes.
It even scans at gamma 1.0 (unmodified gamma curve request is being send to the scanner).

However, for such purposes, you'll well need gamma adjusted to your working system environment, so you want to visit the SilverFast options dialogue and enable the checkbox "for HDR output" after the gamma value box.


Then you can easily use SilverFast's HDR scanning modes for your scans to be stitched together.
