ICC profile for Nikon Super Coolscan 5000

Postby beo » Sun Jan 30, 2005 11:04 pm

Hi,

I?m currently evaluating SilverFast Ai together with the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED.

Unfortunately I cannot find the ICC profile for this scanner in the Option -> CMS menu. I can see the NKLS4000LS40.icm and NKLS8000.icm but no profile for the Coolscan 5000. What should I do to make the ICC profile available?

Thanks for any Help!

Ottmar

Ottmar,

If you really want to scan optimal color, you should calibrate with IT-8 target slides www.silverfast.com/show/highlights-it8/en.html.

PS - is (F a u s t) a bad word in German? The message preview replaced it *****

Dear John,

Thank you for your response. I fully agree with your advice. As I'm in the evaluation phase of this product, of course I have no means for calibrations. Therefore I wondered if there is a better color profile than the LS4000 color profile available for this scanner . The LaserSoft support explained to me in the mean time that the LS4000 color profile could be used for the LS4000 and the LS5000 scanner.

Kind regards,

Ottmar

PS.: "*****" means fist, which is not a bad word in German. One of Wolfgang Goethe's (famous German poet) masterpieces is called "*****" (part 1 and part 2).

Censorship from LaserSoft???

It appears my post must have been edited by the moderator to remove my mention of another brand of IT-8 targets. Why, I don't know? That's just silly!

From the "LaserSoft Imaging - Registration Agreement Terms":

Dear John MacLean

please note that it cannot be not in our interest to provide an advertising platform for our competitors.
Other users might be mislead to think such statements would find official backing by LaserSoft Imaging if we would leave them unchanged.

Furthermore, while the disadvantages of certain solutions might not be obvious to someone only looking for cheap products, s/he is likely to take advantage of our resources (i.e. support) later on, which although they are freely and happily provided, aren't a 'free lunch' for us.
I think we understandably would rather like to see our efforts be supported (financially) by our users; and thus opportunities offered - like this imaging forum - should not be misused to promote other companies' products.

Kind regards
