Hello there, my first posting here.
Just begun evaluating SF Ai as a possible contender for NS 4.00 replacement
for my LS-40/IV ED.
Installation came through easily and smoothly, was able to do my first scans without a fuss.
However few questions arose:

1. The resolution slider allows going all the way to 5800 dpi. Does that mean that in order to stay within physical (optical) resolution I have not to exceed 2900 setting in the box and anythign over that is SF's interpolation or I miss something ?

2. I'm trying to make through proper CMS settings. I have my monitor calibrated and ICM profile generated (Win XP, Photoshop CS), so in order to establish proper working workflow I set the Internal -> Monitor field (CMS tab, under Color Management) to Image Color Matching (ICM). I assume in this case SF will take the monitor profile file I've generated and use it automatically (similar approach as in Photoshop).
Am I correct ?

Now, I would be willing to set the profile also for the scanner. I go to Input -> Internal field and there shall I set it to Image Color Matching (ICM) ? If so, the application required the Input filed (under Profiles for ICM) to be filled with my actual device (LS-40), right ? But there I only see some weird Ricoh 040402 instead that I don't have and never had.
Any hints what's going on ?

Also, if I have several ICM profiles for the scanner, how to tell SF which one to use ?

Thanks, read through it - didn't help.
The problem is that the SF can't figure anything but some weird Ricoh ...in
Input field (so I have either None or that Ricoh optiosn there).

I guess it looks for ICM files in certain location (not a regular Windows-related one) but finds there this Ricoh ICM only. If this is the case, I would assume I have to figure where SF expects ICM files to be located for Input, and put there the ICM file of the scanner.
However, I run search on somethign like Ricoh*.* and RIch*.icm file on my hard disk - nothing arose. Weird.

Any thoughts ?

What OS are you using ?

If it is WIN2K, put it in

C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\color

and you should be able to get it to be on the list for SF.

Thanks for the response.
I work with WIn XP, regular English edition.
There are lots of ICM and ICC files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color, no one of these is visible by SF
(no one of these files is offered as choice in Input list).
Weird, isn't it ?

Perhaps re-install will help ?

The other place to look for/put profiles is in the user application data section in the Silverfast folder. It is possible that the demo versions will not allow the use of a profile

SF is at PHOTOKINA, so it may take a while for a response from them.

Well Frank, I've tried everything.
Took Nikon's ICM file and put it into SF local folders, reinstalled, but couldn't get rid of that RICOH RUSSIAN-SC 040402. This is what is only appearing in Input list aside of None.
neither could I located Ricoh...icm file searching thruogh entire hard disk to figure where SF took this one from.

Weird.
I guess I'll just have SF support team back from Photokina...
