SF crashes and odd behavior with LS50

I downloaded the Mac demo version for my LS50 and ran into crashes and very strange results.

Some details:
* version of SF Ai demo: 6.2.1d3
* Mac: 1.8 GHz dual processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB disk (only 5GB in use)
* OS X: version 10.3.3

When starting the preview SF crashes during "measuring exposure time". This happens all the time.
Force quit of the application sometimes did not work; I had to switch off the scanner. At other times I get the message that the application has unexpectedly quit.
I had the neg/pos box set to "negative direct" when this happened.

When I changed this setting to "negative" I was able to make a preview but the result was very odd to say the least.

First of all it looks like the communication between SF and Nikon is not correct. I used the negative strip holder, so I can check that the negative is correctly positioned in the strip holder. The preview though shows part of the other photo as well.
When I leave the holder in the scanner and scan with NikonScan (after swithing off SF) the preview is shown correctly.

Secondly the image looks horrible with bands (stripes of around 5 cm on a LaCie CRT 22 inch screen) all over the place. I have never seen this before. In the first bands the picture is repeating itself. Only at the end of the image the last part of it is shown - also in various bands. The middle of the picture is not there, I am missing 80% of it.

The setting in the neg/positive box to "negative" is not of any value to me as the film I am using (Kodak High Definition 200) is not present.

Any thoughts?
