SF 6.2.0r6 Preview Window Defective

Just upgraded from v6.2.0r4 to 6.2.0r6 for my Nikon 8000ED.
Now , the preview acquisition window is the size of a postage stamp and is NON-resizeable; i.e., you cannot drag the borders of the preview window to enlarge it. This is FRUSTRATING.

This is the same thing that happened with my 6.2 upgrade for my Epson 1680Pro, but the latest version (6.2.0r6) has fixed that -- however, when you try to magnify your selection in the preview window, instead of the selection being re-scanned and magnified, the preview window becomes very very small. Additonally, I'm still UNable to launch SF (Epson1680Pro), from Photoshop CS; it unceremoniously crashes Photoshop. The Nikon version DOES launch from Photoshop CS.

There seems to be a definite problem with SF 6.2 versions with both my Epson 1680Pro and now the Nikon 8000ED. This is not helping my workflow. I've used these programs for years and now with the 6.2 upgrades, the ********* is hitting the fan -- or in this case, fans.

I've even tried un-installing both the Epson and Nikon versions from Windows XP AND have cleaned out my registry of any Silverfast and LaserSoft references, then re-installed SilverFast and STILL the same problems.

At the present time I'm using Hamrick's $40 ScanVue program; thankfully it's working.
Any help on this -- please?

Dear Paul Prachun

I tested the Nikon LS 8000 and the Epson 1680 pro on a clean Win XP system with SilverFast version 6.2.0r6 and Photoshop CS.
I am sorry - everything works fine. I couldn?t find the bugs you descibed. It seems, that you have a driver problem

For solving your problems please contact our support:

I hope everything will work fine soon

best regards

Good Day Mr. Sperling:
Thank s very much for responding. I am, unfortunately, beginning to think you're correct about a driver problem.

Yesterday, I spent at least an hour or more re-installing and "playing" with my 2 versions of Silverfast with my Epson 1680Pro and the Nikon 8000ED. Mostly, I've been deleting the Silverfast preferences folder/files.

I now do have the programs working wherein I can use them, but a couple of persistent issues still remain.

1. Epson 1680Pro SF v6.2.0r6 -- still can only open as a standalone program. If opened in Photoshop CS, it crashes Photoshop. Alone, it works except that the preview window zoom function does not function. If one tries to zoom in on a small portion of the preview, the window itself shrinks to a very small unuseable size, rather than enlarging that small portion as it should. This is a new problem since in upgraded to v6.2

2. Nikon 8000ED SF v6.2.0r6 -- This version opens both in Photoshop CS and as a standalone program. As a plug-in, the preview window is of a normal useable size, but again, the zoom function does not work as per the Epson product above. As a standalone product, the program opens with a very small un-useable, non-resizeable window -- i.e., the program is unuseable as a standalone program.

3. Non of these issues were present before upgrading to SF v6.2. Has SF v6.2 installed any new drivers or "dll"s that were not previously installed? What are these new drivers that the new 6.2 version asks if you want to iinstall? Are they a potential culprit?

4. The fact that when I now re-install SF version 6.1, the same problems occur makes me think that the v6.2 has installed some new drivers or dll files that are the issue. I'd actually be quite content to go back to SF v6.1 wherein everything worked perfectly -- if only I could!

If you or your staff have any ideas here, I would surely be glad to entertain them. As I'm sure you can tell, I'm getting quite frustrated with this upgrade issue, but at least for the time being I can use SF to catch up on my work; the Epson 1680 only as a standalone and the Nikon 8000ED only as a plugin. Neither program has the zoom function working.

PS I just noticed you guys are based in Kiel -- my birthplace in 1945. On my next visit to Germany I may have to search you out :D

FOr the Nikon, i think SF changed to the new v4 maid modules at version 6.2
One idea, remove SF 6.2/6.1, remove NS 4 if you installed it, run regclean used with Nikonscan, Install NS3.1x (this will write the old maid modules) , then install 6.1 and see if that doesn't work again.
