I would really like to order the new Nikon scanner right away. Could I use it with my Silverfast 6 for LS 4000?

Dear Mr. M?ller.

The 5000ED will be supported very soon. This scanner will use a different serial number, which means that you cannot use the one that you have for your LS4000 :-? .
I?m not sure about the cost for an upgrade.

Best regards

Any idea when the Nikon 5000 support will be around. I can't wait to see it ...

Dear flatpicker.

We will begin testing tomorrow. If everything works fine, a version for the LS50/LS5000 will hopefully be available next week.

Eric.

Eric,

that sounds like it's just in time for chrismas ;-)

I will check next week back to see if a demo version is available. I am assuming that the 5000 version will support all Nikon features (including ICE 4, batch scanning via SF-210, etc.)

I'm really not satisfied with the colors that I get from NikonScan4. I hope I will have better options with Silverfast, in particular with respect to batch scanning, since I really cannot afford to enhance each scanned slide manually.

Michael,

I have the 4000ED and it's not very good at frame positioning with strips of film or whole rolls of film (and it's obviously pretty slow when scanning at 4000dpi). I'm wondering if the 5000ED is any better at frame positioning.

if you get the 5000ED and SilverFast, can you comment on this and other aspects of the scanner? I have the film adapters and they are apparently compatible with the new scanner models so it would be a matter of upgrading the scanner without losing my investment in the adapters. frame positioning has been my biggest headache with the 4000ED and SilverFast Ai. because positioning is not accurate, it is not possible to scan whole rolls or strips of film without constant monitoring; a postively awful waste of the adapters!

Lasersoft, has Nikon update the Nikon libraries? would the updates also apply to the 4000ED? I'm wondering when they'll get their act together and solve some of the bugs in their software (including the frame positioning/offset tool bug).

regards
Gregory

You can try the new libraries on your 4000 by downloading the 4.x version of NS from the european tech support site. Unless they had to make physical changes to the scanner to solve the problem, that should give you an idea.

After replacing my defective Nikon scanner I now get decent colors with NikonScan. I'm particularly satisfied with the ICE algorithm. It really removes scratches very good.

I'm nevertheless curious how SilverFast Ai compares. Any update when a demo version for the 5000 will be available?

Thanks,
Olaf

Now that software for the Coolscan 5000 is available has an upgrade price been determined for users of Nikon Coolscan 4000 scanners?
