Hello,
I'm trying the demo of Silverfast on some Nikon IV ED scanners we have in a lab here at our university. I seem to be running into some user permission problems.
First, I install the software using an admin account. I launch the app, it finds the scanner, I can scan, yay!
Second, I log in as a normal user (we can't have all those students getting admin accounts, no sir) and voila! Error city! First error states that it can't access the log file (naughty naughty, writing preference and log files into the application's directory, instead of in the user's directory...or globally in /Library/Preferences and /Library/Logs!). Second error states that the scanner cannot be found. But the scanner is on, and it can even be accessed by that crappy NikonScan program. Which is why I'm looking into buying a bunch of licenses of Silverfast in the first place - NikonScan "Unexpectedly Quits" every time a normal user tries to use it to scan. The crash log says the error occurs during a call made by a routine with "Maid" in the name. If you have to use these "Maid" calls in your own software, it's no wonder there are problems.
Any idea if non-admin users will be able to use your software?
Thanks,
Ryan

I can confirm that almost everything in the SilverFast Application folder and all nested levels requires write access for the user.
I tried to get around this limitation today by setting the permissions for specific folders. I failed. everything must have full permissions.
versions:
OS X 10.2.6
SilverFast HDR/Ai v6.1.r01
Lasersoft has only just begun to build OS X friendly installations. for example, the new pdf manuals and movies are now installed in /library/application support/lasersoft. I'm guessing that user-specific prefs and settings will come next ;-)

Gregory
