LaserSoft Imaging

This happens now with both the stand alone app and with the Photoshop 7 plugin. I launch the plugin (LS-40) and scan a slide or negative. Everything works ok. I launch the plugin again to scan another photo and the plugin can't find the scanner. Quitting photoshop and relaunching the plugin finds the scanner, but again the second attempt to scan loses it.

This was happening with r14 first, so I updated to r35 with no change.
I suspect its a Mac OS X problem, because it was working properly before
upgrading to 10.2.3. But I can't be certain.

I'm using Photoshop 7 under Mac OS X 10.2.3

And yes, I've checked all the mechanical and electrical connections and everything is ok. I've even moved the scanner to another USB port.

Needless to say this is very frustrating, especially when I have 20 photos to scan.

I sent email to support, but no reply.

Anyone else having this problem? Any solution?

If you have NikonScan software also installed on your OSX.2.3 system, please uninstall NikonScan and you don't have problems with SilverFast any more.

Rule of thumb, for both programms (NikonScan and SF):

If you want to install both scanner drivers on OSX, make sure you installed SilverFast last!!

Ok. I deleted all the Nikon Scan software.
Still, I startup photoshop 7, then file->import->silverfast
and the plugin is ok. I quit the plugin and immediately repeat
the file->import->silverfast and now the plugin can't find the
scanner! (Photoshop lists only the Silverfast plugin now, no
Nikon scan.)

Stranger still, I went to Nikon's website and downloaded the 1.2
firmware installer. When I run the installer it too says it can't find
the scanner and doesn't proceed. Yet the Apple system profile sees
the scanner in the USB 1 port, and I can scan if I quit photoshop and
restart it each time I want to scan. Its the scan-again situation that
always now fails.

I am mystified. It was working. I've scanned and rescanned many times.
I am on Mac OS X 10.2.4

On a whim, I tried running Photoshop 7 under Classic (OS 9.2).

Everything works!

None of the problems described above happen.

They seem to only happen under OS 10.2.4 !!

Sounds like the QA team needs to run some test on 10.2.4

I should also add that I managed to upgrade the Firmware for the
LS-40, but it would only install IF CLASSIC WAS NOT RUNNING.
The updater would not find the scanner when Classic was alive.
Shutting down classic made it possible for the updater to run.
I reported this to Nikon.

However, it seems that the scanner software now won't work on
10.2.4, but it willl work under Classic.
Not a real solution, but I can live with this until the guys in Germany
come up with a patch for 10.2.4
