how to avoid autoexposure

some of my dias are underexposed.
e.g. there is a dark ocean view, all very dark blue and grey just the top of the waves are shining white.
This kind of slide is scanned in even more underexposed.
My workaround to get a better scan is to put the lamp on maximum.
Isnt there a way to manipulate the exposere?

Silverfast 6, IT8 calibrated, Nikon 4000 ED. Windows 2000
