High resolution scan

I am relatively inexperienced scanning and in researching the previous topics with the Nikon Coolscan V and LaserSoft SE I noted that one question referenced scanning at 4000 dpi. When I try to do a scan I can only adjust to 600 dpi, which does not result in a scan which meets my desires. My question is: Is there something I am not doing or is this the best resolution I can expect?

Dear customer,

You are probably trying to adjust the Preset.
The Preset defines the scan resolution in combination with the set output size.
The scan resolution results from the Preset and zoom (scaling).

This is used to scan images at the correct resolution for a certain output size and resolution (Preset).
In this sample the image would be scanned so it can be printed at 22.57 x 16.77 cm at a print resolution of 300ppi.
The scan resolution used to achieve this is 350ppi.

But you can also set the slider to a certain resolution you wish to use.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
