When the 'Multiple Sampling' tool on the Prescan window is used with my Nikon scanner, does SilverFast perform multiple scanning or multiple sampling?
You could easily test for yourself - with the Nikon it WILL be multiple sample - ONE scan but multiple samples.

Multiscan means the scan head or film holder goes through the scan process 4/8/16 time

My Nikon LS-2000 does it's multi-sampling during one, much longer, pass. Choose 1X and time it, then 16X. The 16X scan should take considerably longer.

With my Epson flatbed and Silverfast Ai, the scanner does physically make multiple complete scans, the scanner head passing under the glass, say, 16 times. I suspect that Nikon's system produces better registration.

Multiscan takes a LOT longer than multisample. Also, multisample registration is VASTLY better than multiscan!
