Using the latest version of SF6 on the PIE1800u there is a difference in the preview frame and the final scan that crops off a significant amount of the lower edge.
That being said, this version is still a huge improvement over the previous releases, with the exception of the bizarre behaviour at the end frames of negative strips of course.

I never noticed the frame issue but checked and was surprised to see the original dirver shooting from the bottom up (leaving out a portion of the top) and the SF driver shooting to the top down (leaving a bit off the bottom...your right strange

The end of the frame issue is hardware related and is happening due to the negative not being held in place properly. It's a pain to do but if you use the beginning of the roll (unusable over exposed portion) as a "negative extender" it will help to do two things.

1) it will close the gap of any opening between negative and negative holder

2) it will help to flatten any curved negative for better focus.

if you look closely there is a gap about this wide "--" between the edge of scann and the "negative holder feet" this is where that issue comes from.

I have contacted PIE and asked them to have R&D look into it and to contact me when a new holder is available. Be aware that there is also no glass in the negative holder on newer versions, which saves a ton of time --- no glass means nothing to clean

If you have one that has the glass you can remove it with a micro screwdriver and a basic understanding of the plastic clips holding the glass in place.
