iSRD on Kodachrome slides producing artifacts...

I'm trying to scan some kodachrome slides from the 50's-70's, and everything is working great...except the iSRD.
The problem I'm having is that it's actually corrupting the image in the really dark areas. I think this is due to the fact that the slides aren't "smooth," but seem to built up to produce the darker areas, and this is somehow messing up the infrared scan.
I usually set infrared all the way to 20, but I lowered it to 10....and it this time it didn't corrupt the dark areas...but it didn't remove any of the other artifacts either.
Any tips for using iSRD with kodachrome slides? Thanks!
