Hello from California,
I want to scan 1000 old slides with my Plustek 7200. They will primarily be viewed on a computer, but I would also like to view on a 40 inch TV. I want to be able to copy to DVD to send to relatives. Some prints will be made, but it's not fine art. Most prints would probably be 4x6.
After many hours of research, my question is: What dpi should I use and what output size in the scanner? Also what format, JPEG or TIFF? One professional copy service told me they use 2000dpi and JPEG, but I didn't get the output size.

you can directly chose a output size in pixel to make sure your image uses the correct size for a special use.
You can do this by clicking the measurement unit until it displays "pixel".
If you want to show an image on a 1080p HDTV for example you would chose 1920×1080pixel.
A standard PAL TV image for example would be 768 × 576 pixel.

If you want to chose the resolution please use the slider located below the input/output settings.
This ensures you use a hardware setting your scanner is capable of.
2000dpi will probably not be possible the scanner most likely offer 2400dpi.
If you use the Output setting the resolution is chosen automatically and does not have o be edited, but has to be a hardware setting offered by the slider.
Please do not enter any values into the input field next to this slider, as this forces the scanner to use a setting it is not capable of.

The easiest way certainly is to just set the resolution slider to a value of e.g. 2400dpi.
Most devices will be able to display this and the resolution is still enough for small prints.
