1. Is it better to scan at a high dpi and reduce the image in photoshop?
2. What is the best photo paper to use, and is it important to match the paper manufacturer to your printer manufacturer?
3. My printer has an 8 MB memory card and I have difficulty printing images over 8 MB. Is there anyway to print these larger images without buying another printer? Printer is HP1220C no upgrade possible on memory card.

It is safe to scan at high DPI and reduce the image in Photoshop, but optimal to scan at the desired resolution directly via SilverFast. If you do minimal work in Photoshop, you should get the best results.
Regarding your printing questions, it may be best to find a forum on printing to get accurate answers. As for photo paper, I've used all different kinds and got good results. I generally use the kind produced by the same manufacturer as the printer itself.

I am using SF5.5 ona Polaroid SS4000 scanning negative film ( Fuji superia 400). When I started using the SS4000 & SF5.5 with OVERVIEW the screen capture of the negative holder gave me an exact reproduction of the strip of negs in a positive mode. Lately the screen capture is a blend of Green & Red images, almost impossible to distinguish from one frame to another. I have tried switching from Negative to Positive with no success. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Len
I opened SF5.5 today, a registration window opened I reregistered but it would not accept either the Polaroid or the Silverfast HDR #. When I entered SF in the demo mode the scanned image had "SilverFast" obstructions on it. Do you have any idea what the fix is?

Goto to the SilverFast folder in Photoshop Plugins Import/Export. Open the folder and find Prefs and Previews. Delete the contents of the Prefs and also delete everything in Previews folder (don't delete the actual folders).

Are you sure that you aren't trying to use the serial number for a version previous to 5.5. ? To fail with both suggests that you are using the wrong codes.
