I am a little lost with the explanation given on page 80 of the SilverFast manual with regards to the auto-adjust settings "COLOURED" and "COLOURED + C".

I am using IT8 calibration which automatically sets the SCANNER > INTERNAL setting under options to CALIBRATE and colours the auto-adjust button.

Should I leave it like this or should I set the SCANNER > INTERNAL setting to IMAGE COLOUR MATCHING (ICM) and let the auto-adjust button go "Coloured + C"?

Eric,

Simple aanser is NO! it is NOT necessary!

Chossing ICM will simply put the "C" in the aperature symbol. Unless there is something amiss with your setup SilverFast will NOT apply any colour cast removal with either ICM or Calibration. The assumption being that a custom profiled scanner (ICM) or an SF IT8 calibated scanner will already be ensuring that scanner induced casts are reduced/eliminated (neutral scans). The apearture symbol with nothing inside and with a plain blue/grey surround WILL apply colour cast removal on the basis that it "might" be scanner induced. If you don't want the cast removed it is simply a matter of holding the Shift key at the same time as pressing Auto Adjust.

With your configuration Silverfast will simply ensure that the highlight and shadow points are properly placed . I just posted a tutorial that discusses some of this see http://www.computer-darkroom.com/sf5-negafix/edit.htm
