SRD is a problem with some pictures

With some pictures,SRD is really great. With others, that have many detail,it`s nearly unusable. You can set the parameters to any value, but you will either have no dust removal or loss of many, many details. So you have to work with many masks and that takes a LOT OF TIME with a 4000dpi (24/36mm) scan. And if you make too many masks, the program nearly stops working. Then it takes nearly a minute to use any command. You`re even unable to cancel, you can just wait and wait and wait.It happened several times now.Too many masked areas and the program hangs.(P3/750mhz;512MB;PS7 with 100% memory usage)

You're right Stefan, even SilverFast has its limits, that is because computer software lacks human intelligence and it is difficult for an algorithm to decide what is content of an image and what is not.
The more detail an image has, the more difficult it gets to distinguish dust from details.

Thanks for the reply. What I?m complainig about in the first place is not the lack of more intelligence, because I think,SRD is the best I ever saw to get rid of dust. And it`s o.k.,that there are limits with some pictures. Therefore we have the mask tool. That`s great! But I`m complaining about the program to hang,if the masks become too big.Maybe a bug?!?
BTW,although I automatically login to this forum,it doesn`t always show me,what`s new.

Dear Stefan,
it would be kind from you to send us your "prefs" with a mention like "problem with masks", so that we can analyze the problem (
info@silverfast.de)
The actual version of SRD enables you to draw masks and the speed should be O.K. However, in extreme cases, when the number of masks is VERY large, the program begins slowing down.
Anyway, we continually work to optimize SilverFast, and especially its new tools.
Best regards.

Thanks for your reply.I sent my prefs to Martin M?nier, who has always been a great and fast help to me in the past.
So,many thanks to Martin.
