Does lasersoft follow these threads?

Gregory,

Does Lasersoft tend to follow these threads and respond? I am wondering if the lack of a response indicates that there may indeed be an issue with dual processors. I am also curious as to how Silverfast Ai is implemented. Is it a core Ai engine with scanner-specific plugins/twains? If I wanted to use Ai with both an Epson 2450 and my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 would I have to buy 2 complete versions?

Regards, Rick

The Lasersoft programmers are extremely busy perfecting SilverFast v6 for as many of the scanners they support as possible. In spite of their heavy time tables though, they do respond to forum questions quite often.

I searched the forum. There used to be problems interacting with Nikon scanners connected to dual processor computers but that problem was already worked-around in SilverFast v5.5.

Today, I personally observed that the SilverFast Ai (NikonM) v6.0.1r23 installer does indeed install the Nikon support files in the wrong place. As long as the files were in /Library/Application Support/NikonM/Nikon/, SilverFast was not able to detect my Nikon scanner. As soon as I moved the files up one level to /Library/Application Support/Nikon/, the problem went away. I wonder if your problem is related to the installation after all.

By the way, I deleted the Nikon MAID folder in ~/Library/Preferences/ without any untoward effects on SilverFast. I'm pretty sure that they're only used by the Photoshop plugin version rather than the standalone version of SilverFast.

Just in case, you might also delete: ~/Library/Preferences/com.lasersoft.sfapp.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/Lasersoft Imaging/.

As for the question regarding separate versions of SilverFast for different scanners, the answer is 'yes', you will need to purchase one copy of SilverFast for each of your scanner models.

I have three copies of SilverFast; SilverFast Ai (NikonM) for my Super Coolscan 4000 ED scanner, SilverFast Ai (Microtek) for my ScanMaker 5700 scanner and SilverFast HDR for convenient processing of RAW scan files or other jpeg/tiff files. All of my copies are v6, and run very well on Jaguar 10.2.1 even though the web site states otherwise in some places. My scanners are connected to my iMac via FireWire.

I chose to purchase SilverFast for both of my scanners so that I would have the same interface and functionality regardless of the scanner being used. I do not regret that decision.

regards
Gregory

I Tried

Gregory,

Thanks for getting back to me. We tried the folder moving suggestion before (moving Nikon up and dleting NikonM), but with no improvement. I also went ahead and deleted everything and redid a standalone only install, but no change. I am hoping that Lasersoft will give a reply. In the meantime, I will make one full sweep again to erase all traces of Ai and Nikon and keep trying.

Thank, Rick

Prefs not created

Gregory,

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall. Moved the Nikon folder up a level in app support. No go - scanner not found.

I also note that I do not have the Prefs you mentoned in the ~/library/preferences. Perhaps these are not created until it finds a scanner.

Nikon keeps coming out with "Updates" to Nikon Scan 3.1.3 (10 Oct and 16 Oct) but these have no benefit to 10.2.1.

Rather frustrating and I am suprised that Lasersoft hasn't responded with either a message that things should work, or a message that there is a problem with dual processors.

Tried the new version today - 6.0.1d25 and it still doesn't work.

Is this a Bigger issue than I realized?

This issue of getting Silverfast to work with the new Dual CPY/DDR G4 Powermacs seems more involved than I thought it would be.

So far, I haven't found a single new Dual/DDR G4 user to say that it works for them. At least then I'd know it was my setup.

Any ideas Lasersoft? Thanks, Rick

Dear Nikon LS-4000 users

I discovered this old thread that wasn't up to now positively answered by LSI employees, so I want to explain that this scanner worked already well with dual CPU G4 Macs when I joined LaserSoft Imaging back in October 2003 - that's been about version 6.1.0r5, then, which doesn't mean to say it didn't worked before, mind you.

Please note that the purpose of the imaging forum is not to provide personal support. It is intended to serve as a platform for imaging professionals for exchange of experience and communicating ideas [ viewtopic.php?p=9763&highlight=9763 ].
Therefore LSI staff will only provide limited support in the forum.
Thank you in anticipation of your kind co-operation.

And to answer another popular question: The SF-200 and SF-210 are supported without the need of a special version of / serial for SilverFast 6.

Best regards
