Gregory,

I followed your directions and went to the HD/library/application support/ and temporarily removed the Nikon Folder from the NikonM folder. Then deleted the empty Nikon M folder and placed the Nikon folder back into the application support folder. Essentially, moved the Nikon Folder up a level. Restarted, and still have the no scanner message. have you been able to get it to work with this procedure?

Thank, Rick

It's working for me, but note that I'm only using SF App, not the Photoshop plugin.

What kind of Mac do you have? Do you have 2G of RAM?

Gregory

I am using a PowerMac G4 Dual 1ghz DDR/MDD with 1.2 ghz RAM installed. I tried both the plug-in and the standalone SF program in my Applications folder. Both give me the no scanner message. This is frustrating if you have been able to get it to work, but I can't using the same installation procedure.

In the HD/library/application support are 2 folders. One says profiles the other says Maid Driver. The MAID Driver appear not to be a folder when clicked. gives an open with application lessage. Strange. should this be the same as the home/library/Preferences/Maid Driver contents?

SF App Alone No Go

gregory,

I just trashed all oft he Silverfast AI components and installed only the standalone application. Again made the change to the NikonM folder in the Library/application support/ folder. Still no scanner.

Why does the installer place a Nikon MAID folder in my user/Library/Prefs folder and a Profiles plus MAID Modules folders in my HD/Library/Application support? As I mentioned inside the MAID Modules folder is a scanner folder and a MsidDriver folder that isn't really a folder. There seems to be some duplication here as the scanners folder has a LS4000 Module file that is older than the same file in the User/library/prefs. The latter has a Maid Driver file too. I guess this is what you were asking LaserSoft. Very confusing and I don't think I'll be spending $300 too soon with these installation problems.

One last thing.

With the Nikon scanner, before you launch SF App or try to use SilverFast;
  • the scanner must be connected to the Mac
  • the scanner must be turned on
  • film must be loaded in the scanner
otherwise you will get the 'No Scanner' message.

Does this apply to your situation?

Still no luck

Yes, all my tries have been with the scanner on, connected and a slide in the adapter. As mentioned, I even tried a standalone installation still with no luck.
Thanks, Rick

Are you using the LS4000 or the Super Coolscan 4000ED?

Which adapter are you using?

Coolscan

I have the Super Coolscan 4000 ED - firewire. Sorry, I thought that was the same as LS4000. I was using the slide adapter.

Is that the adapter that can hold many slides?

What happens if you try another adapter such as the IA-20 APS adapter, the SA-30 full roll adapter, the 6-frame film strip adapter or the single-slide adapter?

Single Slide

I should have been clearer. I was using the single slide adapter. Thanks, Rick

The single slide adapter should not present any problem but... what happens if you use the strip adapter instead?

If the film strip adapter doesn't work, I will have run out of ideas. We will have to wait for the Lasersoft people to come back from their weekend and hope that they have an answer.

Gregory

Thanks

Nope, the flimstrip adapter doesn't work either. I appreciate all you efforts. I am curious though as to the difference between LS-4000 and Super Coolscan 4000ED. I saw that on teh Nikon website they often refer to the scanner as Super Coolscan LS4000ED. Was there a shift from SCSI to Firewire? If so, could there be a firewire problem?

Thanks again. Regards, Rick

Probably not. I'm using the Super Coolscan 4000ED connected via FireWire and it's working fine although there are still bugs in SilverFast with regard to the APS adapter and a few other software things that Lasersoft are working on.

I'm using OS X 10.2.1 on an LCD iMac 800MHz G4.

I wonder if your's is a Dual processor problem. We can only wait for Lasersoft to reply.

Gregory

LaserSoft,

Can you provide some advice on this issue and AI compatibility with new Mac G4 Dual CPU computers? Thank you,

Rick
