Which side of slide should be face up ?

Do to extreme tiredness and stupidity I accidentally zapped the contents of my external USB hard disk which stored all my scanned slides. I will endeavour to rescan them and would like to double check that I am doing it ok. Which side of the slide should be face up when you place it into a Plustek slide holder? The majority of my slides are Kodachrome which have their logo and one side and VIEW FROM THIS SIDE on the other. I am double checking that it is the VIEW FROM THIS SIDE that should go face up into the Plusket slide holder and that this is also the side of the slide that should be cleaned with something like PEC12 slide cleaner.

Dear michael,
for the scan process it is not important which side of the slide is up, but it is better to have the emulsion-side down because it is easier to remove the dust from the glossy side.

How do you determine what is the glossy and the emulsion side ? Apologies for the stupid question.

One side is more glossy than the other

when you hold it at an angle to the light, the emulsion side will look like there is an engraving or pattern. The other side will have no patterns and be glossy. Usually the scanner manual indicates correct orientation - if you lost yours in the crash, check online.
