Auto Sharpen feature

I think I'm becoming far too regular on this forum... sorry, just having too much fun with Silverfast :-)

I've been looking at the auto sharpening filters in HDR Studio, and I noticed that when I open a file from my Minolta DMSP, sometimes I get different (more) steps: sometimes I get "More Auto / Auto / Less Auto", sometimes I get 7 steps (++, +, more, auto, less, -, --). It can change as I switch between files: if I switch to a digital RAW file, I get the 7 options, and then I go back to a Minolta file, I still get the 7 options, but if I then switch between Minolta files a bit, the extra options disappear and I have the original 3 ...

When I open a file from my Canoscan 9000F I always get the 3 options.

I'm a bit puzzled by this!

1. What is going on here - it looks like a bug. The web site refers to 5 auto sharpen steps, but I'm seeing 3 or 7, in some cases it seems at random
2. How can i tell if the Auto Sharpen feature is aligned (or not) to my scanner model
3. Is Less Auto Sharpen recommended / designed as a method for applying "Capture Sharpening" ?

Thanks
David

Dear David,

For certain Devices our developers have created special sharpening tables.
If an image was generated by such a device, these options will be shown.
If you switch to an image from a different source however the options will still be shown if this device is still selected as the source device.
Images from a different source will not benefit from these settings.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
